Rehoming a pet.
BEFORE you decide to surrender your dog to the shelter, please consider all other options first.
Please note. At this time, The Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center is unable to accept owner surrenders for adoption.
The Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center understands that life can be unpredictable.
There may come a time in which we find ourselves in situations that are out of our control and the kindest and most responsible way to love our pets, may be to find a new home suitable to fit their specific needs.
Before you decide to rehome your dog or surrender the dog to a shelter, please consider all other options first.
The Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center encourages owners to directly re-home their dogs if they can no longer keep them. No one knows your dog as well as you do. Who better than you to determine the best new home for your dog?
Suggestions for self rehoming your dog:
- Contact family, friends, neighbors, church congregations, coworkers or other business associates.
- Ask your veterinarian.
- Reach out to local private rescue organizations
