Free Spay Neuter Program

The Franklin County Dog Shelter offers FREE spay or neuter surgery to dogs owned by Franklin County Residents who meet the following guidelines:

Residents of Franklin County who can show proof of participation in any of the following public assistance programs: Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Food Stamps (SNAP), Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants & Children (WIC), Social Security Disability Income (SSDI), Retired Veteran or Active Military, Section 8 Housing, Energy Assistance Program, Ohio Works First, Medicaid. Or, residents of Franklin County whose household income is not greater than 150% of the federal proverty guideline.

Dogs will receive spay or neuter surgery, vaccines and microchip at no cost. Please call 614-525-5454 to make an appointment, or email us.

This innovative program is funded solely by private donations from Franklin County residents. It was created by former Assistant Director Debbie Finelli for the benefit of the community using zero tax dollars. To donate, please visit our donation page or add a donation when you renew your dog license online.

Please, spay or neuter your pets! Every year shelters receive over 4 million more dogs and puppies than they can find homes for. Homeless dogs often end up abandoned with tragic results.

Spaying your female or neutering your male can prevent unwanted puppies. Getting your pet fixed will also reduce marking, aggressive and nuisance behaviors, and can prevent or reduce incidence of certain types of cancer, helping your pet live a longer, healthier life.
