Shelter Advisory Committee

On December 20, 2016, the commissioners adopted Resolution #918-16 establishing an advisory committee to the Department of Animal Care and Control to provide advice and community feedback to the leadership of the Franklin County Dog Shelter.

The committee shall consist of nine members chosen from various sectors of the animal welfare community, such as veterinary medicine, public health, animal rescue, and shelter management.

Committee members will be appointed by the commissioners to three-year terms, and the committee will meet at least quarterly or by the call of the chair.

Understanding the dangerous dog laws

If your dog decides to nip the mail carrier, does that make him a Dangerous Dog?

We are very proud of our modern new facility on Tamarack Boulevard which opened in October, 2011. The Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center provides a safe, healthy environment for the dogs, visitors, volunteers and employees. The shelter is a green, environmentally-friendly building which utilizes solar panels, natural sunlight, and an energy efficient design. Specialized air filtration and cleaning systems help keep the dogs healthy by preventing the spread of diseases, and the innovative "real life" rooms provide a comfortable home-like living environment for the dogs in residence.
